The Pink Panther to Pirates of the Caribbean...
By Staff Writer

PHHS art students enjoyed a field trip to the Prairieland Conference Art Show on Thursday, April 10. The show took place in Astoria, so the bus ride was a bit long. Since Mrs. Ulavage was unable to attend, Mrs. Kahn supervised the trip. After they arrived and unloaded their work, the students set up for the show. According to senior Dakota Kuhlman, “ . . .there was really good stuff this year . . .” The two activities for the young artists to participate in this year were a 2-D drawing with a theme and a 3-D sculpture with a theme. Lunch was good, and PHHS artists won lots of individual awards and 4th place in the show. Congratulations to all!!!

Beginning with the Superman theme, on through the Pirates of the Caribbean director Harold Green led the 45 musicians who make up the Peoria Pops Orchestra right here in our own PHGS gym. A fund raiser concert for the Children’s Hospital of Peoria, the Peoria Pops will play a second concert at Trewyn and a third concert yet to be scheduled.

Movie themes characterized the selections played Monday evening. Not only John Williams’ Superman themes, but also a medley of Henry Mancini’s music fromthe Pink Panther, Hatari, Days of Wineand Roses, and Peter Gun. The music of Duke Ellington was another of the selections, as was the theme from Titanic. A medley of songs from the musical Grease was also included in the lineup.

Included among the musicians in the Peoria Pops were PHHS’s own Zack Lawrence on the trombone and Mr. Chris Piper on the concert base. Mr. Piper has been affiliated with the Peoria Pops Orchestra for 15 years, and was their director for 8 years.

Everyone who attended the concert enjoyed the evening. It was a great concert!
