Just kidding, I understand you value your life. But anyway, the bell rang and you would think there was an ambush of elephants streaming through the hallway. I grabbed my books and stood up, before I knew it there was a shoulder forcing me back towards my seat. “Uh, is there something wrong, Mr. Newman?” I was practically chocking on my own words. He had been awfully aggressive that second and I wasn’t sure how to consider it. “You’re failing this class, Anna. You need to work more and I think you know that. Don’t let that Mikey kid ruin your future for you.” I felt his eyes burning through his flesh, and his grip on my shoulder released. I darted out the door before he could say flash. What was wrong with him? Mikey wasn’t the reason I was falling so far behind, was he? My shoulder was already bruising. I slowly fell into my seat in English, covering my face with my hair.
Things are supposed to happen for a reason. I guess in a way, they do. But when everything you’ve ever known fades all around you , nothing can help save you from that black hole you’re about to enter. You know you're about to be lost ins something so violent and alive, unlike you, where as everyone around you will see thinks differently. Sometimes you’ve got to live a little to explore a little.
It was time for lunch. That was my least favorite part of the day, considering we had seating charts and all people did was throw their food around instead of letting their stomach digest it. Miranda had been pushed into her seat beside me and her face was red from laughter. “What’s so funny?” I asked questioningly. Every thing as so funny to her. If you randomly said, “Guapo”, she would roll on the floor. I wish that was just an expression. “I heard some stuff,”she breathed quickly before speaking again, “about you and Mikey. I think you know what I’m talking about.” How could he spread that all around? I thought. Some things seem to be innocent before you're suddenly caught in between gossip all around school. Didn’t even think twice before my feet hit the ground. On my way to the bathroom, I bumped into Shaun. Something wasn’t right. He was acting all weird. Maybe some guys had been ragging on him earlier, which I never found funny considering the way they acted when he lashed back. “If you know what’s good for you, you’ll run out of the front doors now.” And he was gone in a flash, hidden behind the crowd in the lunch room. I hadn’t know what he meant, Knowing me, I continued to the bathroom anyway. My eyes had been bloodshot from not sleeping much the night before, bags sinking beneath my eyes. I knew what it felt like to be self-conscious now. “I hate the way--“ My words were cut off with a striking blast coming from the cafeteria. Before I knew it, kids were scrambling out into the hallways, screaming for a way out. I couldn’t help but notice the blood flow coming from the doorway.
What was going on? I couldn’t tell you. Who had pulled the trigger? I was really sure. Why were the kids fleeing? Maybe because someone was holding a gun. I wasn’t really sure, but I stepped out of the restroom only to be ambushed by Ms. Trinco who led me back into stalls. “He’s got a weapon!” she cried. “He’s gonna kill us all!” I didn’t kow who he was but I didn’t care. I felt like somebody had punched me in the stomach numerous times, and then the pressure kept building until I couldn’t breathe anymore. I heard her whisper something, which I couldn’t make out until moments later. Mikey’s dead. He's dead? He can’t be dead. Not my Mikey. Instantly, I stammered over the bowl beneath me and let out what was bound to come out anyway. My heart practically stopped beating. He wasn’t dead, shes lying. This was all a joke. Please tell me it was all a joke.
I head multiple gunshots go off at once, and the several screams of students cut off in mid-air as they shot through the air. I didn’t want ot leave Ms. Trinco in here alone, but what choice did I have? “Stay here,” I muttered and stepped out of the stall. I could hear her weeps all the way out by the lockers. My eyes danced around the hallway hoping to find the person with the weapon. Something caught my eye, something terrible. I looked down and there was Mikey. He was gasping for breathe and the blood quickly flowing from his chest. I immediately had something to hold down against the wound, keeping pressure on it to stop the blood flow. I heard a slam of one of the cafeteria doors and someone was coming toward me. He had a gun. He was aiming it at me...To Be Continued..
