Congressman Schock

By David Lu
Staff Writer

Aaron Schock is a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the 18th District of Illinois. At the age of 23, Aaron Schock was the youngest school board president in history and the youngest Illinois State Representative. He is now the youngest Member of Congress and the first to be born in the 1980’s. Before going to congress, Aaron Schock began his public services by serving in the Peoria School board when he was 19 years old and was elected vice president at the age of 22.

Congressman Schock visited our school on Monday, January 1st for an assembly with our freshman and sophomore class. During the assembly, Congressman Schock opened us with his visions on education, and fascinating stories regarding his experiences as a congressman. He believes that people should not fear failing but instead, look to learn from their mistakes. Congressman Schock impressed us all with stories of accomplishments he was able to achieve through his challenges. During this assembly, students were able to visualize what it would be like becoming a congressman.
