1979 Season Review

The Scholastic Bowl Team was organized to compete in the Peoria County Tournament in January. The students found the competition enjoyable and requested we continue quizzing. Most practiced during lunch and some during 8th hour study hall release time in the following four months.

The team consisted of seniors Eric Crowe, captain, Victor Murrie, Jerry Reichard, and Kevin Hunt. Juniors Rory Stoller, Jeff Hunt, and Chris Raistrick, sophomore Brett Davis, and freshmen Bert Wombacher and Jake Murrie completed the team. Eric, Bert, and Victor were the top three individual toss-up question leaders with 38, 24, and 20 correct answers respectively. Victor and Eric earned Blackhawk Conference Tournament honors for the third and fifth highest totals in the tournament. Bert was off the mark by only one question. Letters were awarded to Eric, Victor, Bert, Kevin, and Jerry.

Four tournaments and one individual match were scheduled. The final record was seven wins and 10 losses with third place (2-2) in the conference. The staff was challenged to a contest and won.

A buzzer system, name plates, notebooks, and other materials were obtained by Principal Tom Gamboe. Mr. Dick Wetzler obtained the letters and Mr. John Smith made name plate holders.
